In honor of MFG Day, AMBayArea members across the Bay Area are opening their doors throughout the month of October to introduce the next generation to careers in the manufacturing industry:

MetalFX, located in Willits, will be hosting almost 300 students from more than 12 high schools for facility tours on October 3 and 17. Students will get an up close and personal look at manufacturing, the skills being used by current employees, and demonstrations in fiber laser cutting, punch and stamp presses, press brakes, TIG welding, the machine shop, as well as engineering and quality control.

Bishop-Wisecarver, located in Pittsburg, will host high school students from Contra Costa County and the Mt. Diablo Unified School District on October 4 for a day of hands-on activities and plant tours, showcasing the wide range of career opportunities within the manufacturing industry. Bishop Wisecarver will also launch their nationwide BW Innovation Design Contest, which encourages students from across the country to demonstrate their creativity and engineering skills.

Brimstone, located in Oakland, will be hosting students from Oakland High and Castlemont High, at the company’s laboratory facilities on October 10. TIME named Brimstone one of America’s top greentech companies of 2024.

DOER Marine, located in Alameda, will host students from two high schools on October 10. The students will tour the facility and learn about DOER Marine, which manufactures submersibles used for private and public research and exploration. 

Casa Sanchez Foods, located in Hayward, will host a group of students from Castro Valley High School on October 18 for a tour. Casa Sanchez COO Linda Renteria will also be speaking at Chabot College on October 18 as part of their Advanced Manufacturing Day, a distinguished event dedicated to celebrating the forefront of modern manufacturing and inspiring the next generation of innovators.

MFG Day is manufacturing’s biggest annual opportunity to inspire the next generation to start careers in modern manufacturing through a series of focused events to promote manufacturing to students, parents, and educators on the first Friday of October and continuing throughout the rest of the month.
